The Ahtna language is an Alaska Native language traditionally spoken by the Ahtna people of the Copper River and Upper Susitna River region in Alaska. Ahtna carries generations of knowledge — place names, ecological understanding, values, stories, and worldview — embedded within its words.
Alaska Leadership Group supports Ahtna language revitalization by creating culturally grounded programs that center land-based learning, intergenerational teaching, and everyday language use. Through camps, leadership gatherings, and partnerships with Elders and language bearers, the organization helps create spaces where Ahtna is spoken, heard, and practiced in meaningful community settings. By integrating language into cultural activities and youth programming, Alaska Leadership Group contributes to strengthening identity and ensuring the Ahtna language continues for future generations.
